Summary: A 14-year-old girl, Lily, is haunted by a memory of killing her own mother when she was only four years old. Set in 1964 in South Carolina, the story is one of self-discovery and recovery for Lily and for her friend/caretaker Rosaleen. Rosaleen and Lily run away from home and find solace and sanctuary with the bee-keeping Boatwright sisters.
