(Below are 3 of 19 questions in the full resource for The Secret Life of Bees)
1. August explains bee yard etiquette to Lilly, and draws parallels between the bee yard and the regular world – “same rules work in both places. Don’t be afraid, but don’t be an idiot.” Good advice. What rules have you devised that are effective within you and as you operate in the outer world?
2. August explains the death of April and its profound impact on May and the result that “the whole world became May’s twin sister.” We have all experienced loss. But can you think of a twin sister that is a deep part of yourself that you have lost?
3. May tells Lily that “the worker bee weighs less than a flower petal, but she can fly with a load heavier than herself.” May and Lily both carry heavy burdens. In May’s case it is more than she can tolerate. What burdens do you carry? Are you able to maintain that weight? What are some strategies that you have developed so that you are still capable of flying?
